Patrick

It’s a crooked street in Brooklyn Heights lined with gas lamps and ivy, where the city hum fades into the chatter of children and the clink of morning coffee. It’s a home with fireplaces from the 1920s, tile that has outlasted generations, and a woman determined to let it all breathe again. It’s vintage Italianate chairs reborn in new fabric, heirloom lamps glowing softly beside the sofa, and a rhythm that balances motherhood, memory, and creative fire.

Rebecca Patrick has a gift for holding many worlds at once. Executive producer by day, mother to Josephine and Winston always, and a woman with an intuitive sense for beauty that feels lived in, layered, and real. After a decade in Manhattan, she and her husband found their way to Brooklyn and into a townhouse with good bones and even better stories waiting to be told. Rather than sanding down its age, Rebecca plans to celebrate it, reviving the soul of the Arts and Crafts movement through color, texture, and craftsmanship.

Until the renovation begins, she’s made magic within the existing walls. Every corner feels intentional: collected, cozy, and filled with the nostalgia of her own childhood. She cooks, she creates, she leads — both in her work and in the way she moves through her home. There’s an order to the chaos, a tenderness to the structure, a sense that every detail, from the morning babyccino ritual to the inherited settee, matters deeply.

Rebecca’s world is a study in contrasts: old and new, calm and creative, soft and strong. Stepping into her home feels like stepping into a story still being written, one where heritage and modern life meet, and where love, work, and artistry are forever intertwined.

Tell us the story of finding your home.

After 10+ years in New York City, and lots and lots of discussions, my husband and I decided we'd make a go at raising our family in Brooklyn. In 2023, we found a funky little townhome on a crooked street in Brooklyn Heights with lots of room for improvement, but the footprint was there, the location couldn't be beat, and unafraid of a renovation down the road we made an offer. We're now in the planning stages of our renovation and having so much fun envisioning how our family will live and grow in this home -- a major plus is working with Page House to help bring our vision to life.

What's one ritual you do that makes it feel like your space?

In our family, every morning begins with coffee: my latte, Jack's iced brew, and Josie's sweet vanilla "babyccino." As the coffee brews, I love gathering the kids to open the curtains and welcome in the morning light. Living in the city, this simple ritual of drawing the curtains open and closed feels like the perfect bookends to our day.

What's one item around the house that you hold especially sacred?

A vintage Italianate settee and chairs set, once my grandmother's, originally covered head to toe in a bright salmon pink fabric. My earliest memories of my grandmother are sitting on the settee together in her Baltimore home reading and talking about our day. I always dreamed of having a home where these pieces would feel like they truly belonged, and now, with a little love (and new fabric), they are finally living a second life here in Brooklyn.

How do you pull your interiors together?

I'm allergic to a white box and hard lines and I'm a serial nester - I need texture, soft colors, warmth, depth, and layers to feel at home - typical Cancer for you. My husband and I have always said we want our home to feel elevated but lived in and I think we've accomplished that by weaving together new and old and not taking ourselves too seriously. We love to travel and always find ourselves picking things up along the way - it's so fun catching the eye of something we picked up in Vietnam or New Zealand and reminiscing on those memories for a brief moment. We spend a lot of time in rural Vermont & Maine and you'd be amazed at the treasures you'll find at a random roadside antique market.

Five things you are currently placing on a pedestal?

  1. I Our neighborhood comes alive for Halloween & Christmas. I had so much fun coming up with our "Cowboy Skeleton" stoop decoration theme this year - did you know you can get bales of hay delivered in a literal shipping box? I can't wait for our little corner of Brooklyn to transform again for Christmas and to fill our house with lots of magic.
  2. II L'Appartement 4F Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies could cure just about any bad day. If I'm invited to your house, I'm bringing you a box - and always getting a couple extra for myself. I can't resist!
  3. III Our house is pure chaos most days with a 2.5 year old and almost 6 month old in tow - but the slow mornings when the whole family has no agenda except sitting around making each other laugh brings me the most joy.
  4. IV I recently treated my toddler, Josie, to her first manicure & pedicure after a rough weekend with the stomach bug. She picked a sparkly purplish/pink color, and of course we had to match.
  5. V My amaryllis bulb sitting on the Bessette Pedestal. It will truly be a miracle if I can get this bulb to grow a second year in a row, much to my dismay, I do not have a green thumb.
