LINDSAY

LEGATES

It’s fresh-from-the-farmer’s-market meals. It’s inheriting your grandmother’s china to serve them on. It’s a bike ride to the bakery. It’s a stoop full of herbs and sunflowers. It’s a perpetually open door to a home that begs for guests to sit down and stay awhile.

Meet Lindsay, she’s our go-to gal for almost everything from recipes to places we need to add to our bucket list. Through her sheer insatiable curiosity, she has secured that type of enviable joie de vivre lifestyle that just keeps getting more and more honed to her own self-possessed perspective. It’s safe to say she has a certain vibrational pull towards what lies beneath the mainstream references, and is consistently two steps ahead of hunting for her “latest and greatest” discoveries. And while she keeps us on our toes for her whereabouts and finds, her intrigue expands well beyond offering a list of hot spots. Because her zest and deeply engaging spirit also extends to people. Her people, specifically. She takes care of us just as as thoughtfully and easily as she whips up a brunch spread of crispy bacon, eggs, and waffles (yes, with all the topping options). She is a consummate hostess with all of the bells and whistles of beautiful linens, a playlist to elaborate on the mood she has set, and cozy seating so that we never want to leave the serenity of her space.

If there is one word to define her home, situated in the center of the Virginia Highlands neighborhood, it is: ALIVE. Inside lies her very own secret garden with layers of greenery enveloping the walls and windows. And outside: the movement of her neighbors trekking along the Beltline, bouncing from spot to spot. Just as all homes should, the energy matches its owner. The vibe all comes together to form an evocative medley of coolness and comfort - à la, our ultimate It girl.

Tell us the story of finding your home.

This home truly found me. I was in the midst of moving from Los Angeles to New York City when COVID hit and I unexpectedly found myself back in Atlanta. After months of living with my parents (shoutout to Sus and Jim for taking me in) I was in need of my own space. I took a beltline stroll one day and saw a For Rent sign outside this little house up on a hill. It was currently being renovated but hadn't been listed yet. I walked through while the painters were still there and immediately fell in love with the parquet hardwoods, crown molding, and coffered ceiling -- needless to say, I signed that day.

What's one ritual you do that makes it feel like your space?

This is technically two, but they are the rituals that bookend my day so they come as a pair... in the mornings, I curl up in the leopard chair in the corner of my bedroom to meditate or do breathwork. This chair was from my childhood home so it brings me an incredible sense of peace and comfort. In the evenings, I play vinyl on my Papa’s record player, which sets the mood and backdrop for dinner or relaxing. Tunes are always on.

What's one item around the house that you hold especially sacred?

This is so hard! It's the 'your house is on fire, what do you save' question. For my birthday one year, my mom compiled all of the Gregory family recipes, including my Grammy's famous wings, into a cookbook. It’s something I add to and consider incredibly sacred. The kitchen is my happy place, especially on Sundays, so I guess I consider this my bible.

Our intention with this series is to spotlight the homes of these effortlessly stylish friends who haven’t relied on designers, but their own instincts when it comes to decorating. How do you pull your interiors together?

Luckily, I've inherited so many incredible pieces-- a gold chest, marbled waterfall console, and blue suede wingback chairs just to name a few. My Grammy's style was southwestern, my Mom's is modern, and when you add my twist of laid back California neutrals, somehow it all just fits together. I love finding old objects and giving them new life. I like to think of a home as collected, not decorated. I’m constantly thrifting — outlets, estate sales, and antique markets. For new items, my go-tos are Lulu & Georgia, Jayson Home, and Coyuchi. I would describe my style as soft, comfortable, and natural. I play with textures instead of colors, consider leopard a neutral, and infuse plants in any corner I can. One of my favorite inherited items is the large banana leaf ficus tree that was in our home growing up. Somehow it's still alive after thirty plus years and a transit poking out the sunroof of my car!

what are you currently placing on a pedestal?

  1. I Freshly potted plants on my porch. Hello smells of Spring!
  2. II Steeping loose leaf teas -- current daily blend includes nettles which are great for allergies this time of year.
  3. III Stripes and Corduroy (technically a textured stripe). All year round. From jackets to dish cloths. My dream piece is a Buchanan Studio Chair.
  4. IV Modern Holistic Skin Facials with Jamie. Her hands are pure magic.
  5. V Hermanos Gutierrez. I put this record on constantly at home and finally got to see them live - truly life changing.
  6. VI VI. Weekend Farmer's Markets -- Freedom and Grant Park are my fav!
  7. VII VII. Breakfast dates at Kinship. Hands down, the best spot to walk to in the neighborhood.
