Isobel Mills

Prescott

There is a jewel-box quality to the home of Atlanta wallpaper and textile designer Isobel Prescott. Every wall is wrapped in pattern, every room alive with color and light. It is vibrant and fearless, an unmistakable reflection of its owner’s distinct spirit. From treasured heirlooms to a nostalgic Fisher Price dollhouse found for her daughters, Isobel layers history and play with her own bold prints. The result is a home that inspires — personal, expressive, and brimming with imaginative charm.

Having used her fabrics ourselves in previous projects, we were eager to step inside her world. Beyond the marvel of her interiors, the most memorable moment occurred when we were invited into a space that felt like peering into the very source of her magic: her studio. Samples from her collection on every surface mixed with a display of playful creations of printed pool bags and mahjong totes rendered in her signature prints all come together to prove her artistry knows no bounds. Seeing her richly layered fiber art first-hand is to understand just how special her talent is. It is this originality that defines her: a mind alive with ideas, unfettered by trends and algorithms, radiating a vision that is entirely her own.

Tell us the story of finding your home.

I found our 1940s cottage-style home in the fall of 2019, while still living in NYC, but looking to make the move home after 8.5yrs away. I toured lots of homes, but this charming and light-filled diamond in the rough caught my eye. Once I got past the over-grown, fenced-in jungle that was the front(and back) yard and the sterile and choppy flow of the interior (and skin colored tile),  I saw nothing but potential and the opportunity to make it our own!

What's one ritual you do that makes it feel like your space?

Every morning and night I go through our home and get the lighting just right. My husband now does it, too! Lighting is everything.

What's one item around the house that you hold especially sacred?

My piece of art by paper artist Isabelle De Borchgrave that proudly hangs in our Family Room is my most cherished  possession. I bought it from her during my 3 month apprenticeship in Brussels in the summer of 2015. Working so closely with her and being fully immersed in her creative world, forever changed me and the course of my life and her  painting is my constant reminder of the gift she gave me.

How do you pull your interiors together?

I believe an interesting home is one that has a soul and tells a story about the owner. I wanted our home to be warm and interesting and full of color and pattern,  with thoughtful layers of texture and materials mixed in. A lot of our pieces come from my mom, who’s a collector and connoisseur of fine art and antiques, so I had a major leg up when it came to statement pieces. She’s got an incredible eye for color and design and is the reason the arts are imbedded in me. When looking to fill in the gaps, I live on Etsy, Chairish and 1stDibs and am always on the hunt for a good antique store!
